Wuhan Push: Practical Cooperation With India On Fast Track Since Last Year’s Modi-Xi Summit, Says Chinese Spokesman

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lu Kang, during a media briefing at Beijing, said that the practical co-operation with India is on the fast track since the last year’s Wuhan summit conducted between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, reports Economic Times.

Lu Kang said that the informal summit between the two leaders has opened up new prospects for the bilateral ties and expressed enthusiasm in working with New Delhi.

Responding to a question on Sino-India ties, Lu said, “You can see that under the strategic guidance of the two leaders, China-India relations have shown a sound momentum of improvement with frequent high-level exchanges in all areas and practical cooperation has entered a fast track."

He stated that in an increasingly unstable world, China was willing to work with India to increase coordination and communication in international platforms to uphold the right of developing countries.

Kang said that the two countries could not let differences become disputes. Last month Sushma Swaraj, the External Affairs Minister and her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi had extensive talks in New Delhi and agreed on "ten pillars" of cooperation. The ten pillars came under the “High-Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges”, a framework that was decided during the Wuhan summit.

The two countries have taken measure to have closer ties after the Doklam standoff in 2017.
