Within five years of launching operations in India, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has clocked the sales of over 100 million phones in India till August 2019, well ahead of other competitors, reports Economic Times.
This makes Xiaomi the only brand in any country to have sold over 100 million phones within five years. Xiaomi's vice president and India's head, Manu Jain has hailed the development as a great milestone.
The Chinese technology giant has been doubling down its commitment to Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's flagship 'Make in India' programme and is rapidly expanding its domestic production facilities. The company presently runs three plants in India, and it produces as many as three phones every second. This results in an annual capacity of producing 24 million phones.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
