Iran-backed Houthi fighters from Yemen have claimed striking military targets at Jizan Airport in southern Saudi Arabia with drones, reports The Times of Israel. They claim their drones struck bunkers at the airport which were themselves holding drones belonging to the Saudi military.

Saudi Arabia for its part has not commented on the claim, and it is not yet certain whether any damage or loss of life was caused in the attack. The Houthis are a Shia movement in Yemen which has been embroiled in a civil war in the country against the internationally recognised government which is backed by Sunni powers from the Gulf.

The Saudi-led coalition has been attempting to dislodge the Houthis from power in Yemen for the last couple of years, but has seen little success. The breakdown of order in the civil war has also allowed jihadist groups such as Al Qaeda and the Islamic State to expand their footprint across the country.
