BJP Mahila Morcha protesting against accused professor (@ProfRemaBJP/Twitter)
BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Ponnani and Bharatiya Mahila Morcha Kerala state president was abused by a university professor in Malappuram, Organiser has reported.
The incident happened on 27 March when Professor V T Rema visited Malayalam University in Tirur to canvass votes in her favour. There, she was reportedly abused by an assistant professor named N V Mohammed Rafi as soon as she stepped in the university library.
The report claims that after seeing the BJP candidate he began abusing her aggressively, “This is not Gujarat, get out from here, I hate you...you people massacred Muslims in Gujarat. You bloody get out...”.
Seeing this, the university Vice Chancellor Anil Vallathol and other professors rushed to the scene and tried to diffuse the situation.
Following the altercation, Professor Rema rued that in her 30 years experience as a college professor she was never subjected to such a behaviour. She also questioned as to what the condition of the students would be if a professor was behaving in such a manner.
Subsequently, Professor Rema and the BJP filed a complaint against Rafi with the university and law enforcement authorities. The university has sought an explanation from the accused in this matter.
The BJP Mahila Morcha also protested against the professor outside the university.
The report has claimed that Rafi belongs to an extreme left group and supports Islamist extremists.
