Prime Minster Narendra Modi during his reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address on Tuesday (25 June) mocked the Congress party by saying that it has risen to such great heights that it can’t even see the ground anymore, Times of India reported.

He thus clarified that his and his party’s goal is not to soar higher but to remain firmly rooted to the ground.

In another attack on the Congress party, he questioned why from 2004 to 2014 those in power never once lauded the good work done by the Vajpayee and Narasimha Rao government.

While recounting the Indira Gandhi imposed emergency, Prime Minister Modi said that India’s soul was crushed on 25 June 1977, the entire nation was turned into a prison just because one person wanted to hold on to the power.

Coming to his government, Prime Minister Modi vowed that their fight against corruption would continue and effort would be put into making India one of the top five economies in the world.

“Let it be our collective endeavour to make India a $5 trillion economy. All of us must work together to help realise this dream”, Prime Minister Modi was quoted as saying.

He concluded his speech by stating that Indians are ready for a change and urged everyone to come together to build a new, innovative India.
