The power ministry would bring an electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure policy soon to enable individuals to set up charging stations for commercial purposes, that will boost e-mobility, said Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh on Sunday (11 November), as reported by ET.

"We have circulated the EV Charging Policy for comments (among other departments/ministries). The second line of the policy says that anybody is free to set up an EV charging station," Singh said during an International Symposium.

When asked if the individuals can use the facility on a commercial basis, he replied in the affirmative by saying, "Absolutely. You don’t need a licence".

This initiative is a required boost to EVs in the country as India expects to have a sizeable share of EVs in vehicle strength by 2030, which aligns with their goal of reducing emission intensity by one third as compared to 2005 levels.

When asked about the 1,200 MW hybrid auction (wind and solar), the minster said, "The tariff ceiling has been increased to Rs 2.70 per unit. We are looking to extend it because we have increased the ceiling price."
