Deepinder Goyal led online food ordering and delivery platform Zomato has joined the EV100 initiative with the commitment to fully transition its entire delivery fleet to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, reports Economic Times.

Announcing the commitment via a blog post, Goyal who is the co-founder and chief executive of Zomato, shared that the company is already delivering via EVs in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

Goyal added, "The current EV fleet is a small fraction of the active fleet of delivery partners, and we understand that getting to 100% adoption of EVs will not be easy, but is essential in the long run."

Goyal also said, "At the moment, the adoption rate is very low for us and for the two-wheeler industry in general. We believe key barriers that currently impact adoption include limited battery range, lack of charging infrastructure, higher upfront costs and lack of trust in new technology."

EV100 is a global initiative of companies that are committed to switching their fleets to EVs by 2030. Walmart-backed e-commerce behemoth Flipkart is also a part of EV100.
