Vijayendra Yediyurappa
BY Vijayendra, the son of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, was appointed as the president of the the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the party's high command on Friday (10 November) evening.
In the lead-up to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated for mid-next year, Vijayendra's appointment will lead to the replacement of the current state president of the party, Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Vijayendra is an MLA from Shikaripura in Shimoga district and was vice-president of the BJP's state unit.
This comes a few months after the BJP lost power in Karnataka to Congress and Siddaramaiah became CM of the state again with DK Shivakumar as his Deputy.
Yediyurappa had been actively advocating for his son to become the state president of the party for several months, despite facing significant opposition from within the party.
According to The Hindu, Critics argued that engaging in "dynasty politics" would not be in the party's best interest. However, the party's decision has come out now.
