Police in Maharashtra will be asked to develop a standard operating procedure (SOP) for addressing cases where women are deceived into marrying outside their religion under false identities, according to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

This announcement was made during a discussion in the state legislative assembly regarding allegations that Hindu girls in Aurangabad district were being enticed by anti-social elements.

To ensure effective action, all police stations will be sensitised about this issue. Fadnavis, who is responsible for the home portfolio, stated that if appropriate measures are not taken, the officials involved will face consequences.

If an adult woman marries someone outside of her religion, the law is unable to take any action unless she has been deceived by the man using a false identity, according to the statement made by him.

The cases of women being drugged and manipulated into marriage through the use of a fake identity, as alleged by a legislator, will be investigated. Women who are rescued will also be provided with psychological treatment, said Fadnavis.
