A case was lodged at NM Joshi Police Station against Aaditya Thackeray, leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, along with Sunil Shinde and Sachin Ahir on Saturday (18 November), according to a statement by the Mumbai Police.

This is in connection with the alleged unauthorised inauguration of the Delisle Road Bridge in Lower Parel. The complaint was filed by the road department of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, ANI reported.

The Delisle Road Bridge serves as a vital link between Lower Parel, Worli, Prabhadevi, Currey Road in the West, and Byculla and other eastern areas. Closed on 24 July 2018 by IIT Bombay, citing safety concerns, the bridge has been a subject of scrutiny.

As per Mumbai Police, the case has been registered under sections 143, 149, 326, and 447 of the IPC. The police claim that Aaditya Thackeray, Sunil Shinde, Sachin Ahir, former Mayor Kishori Pednekar, Former Mayor Snehal Ambekar, and 15-20 activists inaugurated the bridge without proper authorisation.

The police report emphasises that the Delisle Road Bridge was not fully prepared for traffic, and there was no official permission from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to open it. The BMC officer filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case against Thackeray and other leaders.

Aaditya Thackeray posted, "While we waited on the BMC to open the full bridge to people for use, it has been almost 10 days that the other side has been ready and waiting for a VIP to inaugurate it. We inaugurated it last night and today, the BMC under the pressure of Khoke Sarkar has closed it down again, waiting for a govt inauguration, only to trouble the citizens of Mumbai. Why can’t it be thrown open for the people instead of waiting for the guardian minister’s ego and convenience? Open it!

Another leader of Shiv Sena (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi stated, "The case has been filed against Aaditya Thackeray for taking action that the illegitimate and corrupt government should have undertaken long ago. The construction of a long-pending and delayed bridge has caused significant problems for the people of Mumbai. Although ready for weeks, they are preventing traffic movement merely for a VIP inauguration. He acted in the interest of the people, opened the ready bridge, and advocated for traffic movement in the area."
