The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against two operatives of the banned CPI (Maoist) in connection with the 2023 murder of Chhattisgarh BJP leader Ratan Dubey, the NIA said in a press release.

Shivanand Nag and his father Narayan Prasad Nag were named in the second supplementary chargesheet submitted to the NIA Special Court at Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.

They have been charged under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for their active involvement in the criminal conspiracy related to Dubey’s brutal killing.

According to NIA investigations, the father-son duo had a history of political, business, and personal rivalry with Dubey and were active operatives of the CPI (Maoist).

“Local BJP leader Ratan Dubey was hacked to death with hand axes during an election campaign in a crowded weekly market at Koushalnar village in Jharaghati area of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh in November 2023. The targeted killing was aimed at disrupting the election and terrorising the local people,” the NIA said in the press release.

The agency had earlier taken over the probe in February 2024.

In June 2024, NIA had chargesheeted one accused, Dhan Singh Korram, while two others, Sainuram Korram and Laluram Korram, were arrested and chargesheeted in December 2024.

The case, registered under RC-08/2024/NIA/RPR, remains under active investigation as the NIA continues to gather evidence and identify additional links in the conspiracy surrounding Dubey’s murder.
