The Indian Embassy in Tehran today (28 May) said that three men from the country have gone missing in Iran and efforts are underway to locate them.

According to a report by NDTV, the missing men have been identified as Hushanpreet Singh (Sangrur), Jaspal Singh (SBS Nagar), and Amritpal Singh (Hoshiarpur), and all three disappeared shortly after arriving in the Iranian capital on 1 May.

In an official statement, the Embassy said, "Family members of 3 Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran. The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities, and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety should be ensured."

The families of the missing men claim they were lured by an agent in Punjab who promised to facilitate their travel to Australia through a route involving Dubai and Iran, as per the NDTV report.

According to reports, family members said they received disturbing footage of the three tied with yellow ropes and bleeding, accompanied by a ransom demand of Rs 1 crore. The kidnappers, they allege, also issued threats to kill the hostages if the ransom was not paid.

Initially, the victims were able to communicate with their families using the captors’ phones. However, contact has been lost since 11 May. Meanwhile, the agent from Hoshiarpur who organized the trip is also missing.

The Indian Embassy stated it is maintaining regular communication with the families and coordinating with Iranian authorities to pursue all efforts to locate the missing men.
