Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Sikkim’s 50th Statehood Day and laid the foundation stone for several major projects, boosting the state’s infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism.
Built for Rs 750 crore, Modi launched a 500-bed district hospital in Namchi, a government statement mentioned.
A statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was unveiled at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok, honouring his legacy and contributions to the nation.
To commemorate Sikkim’s golden jubilee, PM Modi released a commemorative coin, souvenir coin, and a postal stamp, celebrating the state’s unique culture and history.
Although adverse weather prevented him from reaching Gangtok in person, PM Modi addressed the celebrations virtually, expressing his admiration for Sikkim’s progress over the past five decades and assuring residents of his future visit.
Reiterating his commitment to inclusive development, the Prime Minister said, "When I assumed office in 2014, I introduced the slogan 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. To build a developed India, it is essential to ensure balanced progress across all states and regions. Each part of the country has its own unique strengths. That’s why our government has placed the North East at the heart of our development agenda. We are implementing the 'Act East' policy with an 'Act Fast' approach."
Looking back on Sikkim’s journey, Modi said, "Fifty years ago, Sikkim opted for a democratic path. With its distinct geography, the people of Sikkim wholeheartedly embraced the spirit of India. They believed that when every voice is valued and every right safeguarded, it paves the way for equal opportunities and progress."
