Despite getting one seat in Haryana to contest the Lok Sabha elections under INDI Alliance, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has ditched the Congress-led bloc for the upcoming state Assembly elections.

In a press conference held on Thursday (18 July), senior AAP leaders including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan and Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Sandeep Pathak made the announcement.

Mann said that Haryana's culture is quite similar to Punjab and Delhi, which are ruled by the AAP, and also shares borders with them, making it easier for the AAP to make inroads.

Pathak said that the AAP has already held meetings in 6,500 villages of the state and witnessed people demanding for change. "We will contest the elections to win," he added.

The elections in Haryana are due in October this year. BJP and Congress are the main rival parties here. Former BJP ally Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has 10 MLAs in the 90-seat Assembly.

The AAP had contested the Assembly elections in Haryana in 2019 by fielding candidates for 46 seats but could win none. This time it plans to field candidates on all 90 seats.
