Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday (27 February) inaugurated the Adani Ammunition & Missiles Complex alongside Chief of Army Staff, Gen Manoj Pande in Kanpur.

The inauguration ceremony also witnessed the presence of Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence, who highlighted that the complex is poised to generate approximately 4000 jobs, with significant multiplier effects benefiting MSMEs and the local ecosystem.

He said, “The establishment of these ammunition and missile complexes represents a leap forward in our quest for self-reliance.”

As reported by Economic Times, the investment plan for the project amounts to over Rs 3000 crore.

The Adani ammunition center, touted as South Asia's largest ammunition manufacturing complex, is situated across 500 acres in Kanpur.

It will cater to the production of small, medium, and large calibre ammunition for the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police.

The complex has already commenced the production of small calibre ammunition, with initial estimates indicating a production capacity of 150 million rounds, which is approximately 25 per cent of India's annual requirement.

Furthermore, the Adani Group is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aerospace department of IIT Kanpur for enhancing technological collaborations in the defense sector.

According to industry experts, the establishment of such manufacturing facilities is crucial for India to reduce its dependency on arms imports and emerge as a key player in the global defense industry landscape.
