Secunderabad Railway Station
In a significant push to modernise rail infrastructure, 12 railway stations across Hyderabad are set for a comprehensive transformation, with an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
Following the successful revamp of Cherlapally railway terminal, these stations will be upgraded to provide facilities on par with domestic airports, officials revealed.
The modernisation drive includes major terminals like Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda, along with smaller stations such as Begumpet, Hi-Tech City, Hafizpet, Malakpet, Malkajgiri, Uppuguda, and Yakutpura.
Among these, Begumpet station has been prioritised due to its strategic importance on the Hyderabad-Mumbai route. Local art and culture will also be showcased to add a unique identity to each station.
Additional upgrades include high-level platforms with shelters, advanced public announcement systems, LED name boards, and second entries for station buildings and circulating areas, where feasible.
“We are conducting a technical and economic viability assessment for upgrading Kacheguda (Rs 474 crore) and Lingampally stations (Rs 310 crore) following the Cherlapally model, incorporating additional railway tracks, coach maintenance facilities, and improved passenger amenities,” said a senior South Central Railway (SCR) official.
The modernisation project reflects the growing demand for better infrastructure in Hyderabad, ensuring passengers experience greater comfort and efficiency.
