After its application to host the 2036 Olympics, India is reportedly exploring the possibility of bidding for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The Indian Olympic Association has begun informal talks with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) about the possibility of organising the event's 100th anniversary, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The report further stated that unlike the 2010 edition held in New Delhi, Ahmedabad has emerged as the frontrunner, with Bhubaneswar also being considered.
Chris Jenkins, the president of the CGF, and CEO Katie Sadlier recently visited India, and engaged with officials from both state and central governments in Gandhinagar, Bhubaneswar, and New Delhi to evaluate the viability of a bid.
At the National Games opening ceremony in Dehradun, discussions took place between Jenkins and IOA president P T Usha.
Jenkins's three-day visit to Ahmedabad included meetings with Gujarat's Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and other high-ranking officials.
During these discussions, the state reiterated its long-term vision of hosting the 2036 Olympics and conducting global sporting events in the build-up.
Officials from the CGF visited major sports facilities, such as the Narendra Modi Stadium, the upcoming Naranpura Sports Complex, and the EKA Arena, and were reportedly "very impressed", Business Standard reported.
