Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin
In a significant political shake-up, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday (27 April) recommended a major reshuffle of his cabinet, swiftly approved by Governor R N Ravi, ANI reported.
The move follows the resignation of two senior ministers: V Senthil Balaji, who handled Electricity, Prohibition, and Excise, and Dr K Ponmudy, who was in charge of Forests and Khadi.
Balaji’s removal comes in the wake of a Supreme Court warning regarding his bail in a money laundering case, while Ponmudy was dropped after sparking controversy with his recent derogatory remarks on women and Hinduism.
According to Raj Bhavan's announcement, a series of reassignments have been confirmed. S S Sivasankar, the current Minister for Transport, has now been additionally entrusted with the Electricity portfolio and will serve as Minister for Transport and Electricity.
Meanwhile, R S Rajakannappan, previously managing the Milk and Dairy Development department, will now take charge of Forests and Khadi as Minister for Forests and Khadi.
CM Stalin also inducted Padmanabhapuram MLA, T Mano Thangaraj, into the cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed ministers is scheduled to be held today, at 6:00 pm at Raj Bhavan, Chennai.
