After sealing 13 coaching centres in Old Rajinder Nagar till Sunday night, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday (29 July) sealed the Nehru Vihar-located Drishti IAS centre.

This centre was being run in the basement of Vardhaman Mall. The action comes after the death of three UPSC aspirants due to flooding in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle.

The Drishti IAS centre being run in the basement of the mall had seven to eight halls. Each hall would have 250 to 300 students. The spontaneous action of the MCD did not let even students take their belongings.

The MCD also began bulldozer action in the Old Rajinder Nagar area to remove encroachment to solve the waterlogging problem as the drains are blocked which caused the water to flood the basement.

A total of seven arrests have been made in the case so far including the CEO and coordinator of Rau's IAS Study Circle, owner of the basement and Thar driver after whose alleged action, the water started going into the basement.

The matter was also raised in the Parliament. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar acknowledged that the issue concerns our youth demographic dividend and the poor state of urban infrastructure.
