Marking a major mark in the development of Agra’s second metro corridor, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has placed the first pier cap at Agra Cantt, TOI reported.
This development, which took place on Saturday (17 May) night, signified progress on the 16 km fully elevated corridor that will connect Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar.
The event was witnessed by project director Arvind Rai, senior UPMRC officials, and representatives from Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the construction partner. The second corridor will feature 14 elevated stations, all currently under construction, and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
"The pier caps are being constructed using precast technology at the casting yard located in Dauki. Each pier cap weighs 65 tons, with dimensions of 9.6m in length, 2.9m in width, and 1.8m in depth. The placement of these caps involves the use of a 400-ton crane," a UPMRC statement read.
This corridor consists of 13 stations — six elevated and seven underground with a 6 km operational priority section already active between Taj Mahal East Gate and Mankameshwar Temple.
The route provides vital access to Agra’s major heritage landmarks, including the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
Trial runs have also concluded on four underground stations of the first corridor, with full-scale operations anticipated to commence by December 2025.
