In a significant breakthrough, the security forces eliminated a senior Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander from Pakistan an encounter in the Dudu-Basantgarh forest area of Udhampur in June, reported Times Of India.
The slain terrorist had been operating in the region for nearly four years.
J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat announced the success while speaking to reporters at the Akhnoor police station.
“The anti-terror operations are taking place continuously, and recently, we got a very big success in Dudu-Basantgarh, where a senior and top JeM commander, who was active in that area for the last four years, was killed,” Prabhat was quoted as saying in the report.
"The operations are taking place and all the terrorists will be eliminated one by one," the J&K police chief added.
He stressed the importance of public support in the success of anti-terror missions.
Three of his associates managed to escape, taking advantage of poor weather and the challenging forest terrain.
The DGP refrained from revealing the number of active terrorists still operating in Jammu’s forests, citing security concerns.
Accompanied by IG CRPF Gopal Sharma, IG Police Bhim Sen Tuti, and DIG Shiv Kumar, the DGP visited Akhnoor police station to present the Ministry of Home Affairs' ‘Award of Excellence’ for outstanding performance in 2024.
He lauded the police team for their work against terrorism, drug trafficking, and organised crime.
He also recognised the leadership of former SHO Tariq Ahmed, SDPO Mohan Sharma, and SP Brijesh Sharma, and encouraged current officers to uphold these high standards.
