The central government has deployed an additional 20 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) companies, totaling around 2,000 personnel, to Manipur in response to recent violent incidents and law enforcement challenges.

According to official sources quoted by The New Indian Express on Wednesday (13 November), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued orders late Tuesday night to airlift these units for immediate deployment.

On Monday, at least 10 suspected insurgents were killed in a confrontation with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after armed attackers in camouflage fired on the Borobekra police station and a nearby CRPF camp in Jakuradhor, Jiribam district. A large cache of advanced weaponry was recovered following the clash.

Per MHA orders, these units will be under the Manipur government’s command until 30 November, although the deployment may be extended as needed.

Tensions in Manipur have escalated in the past week, especially after Monday's violence in Jiribam. Subsequent incidents were reported across Imphal Valley, where opposing armed groups engaged in fresh gunfire exchanges, as confirmed by the state police.
