News Brief
Reports have said that the explosives were packed in two 250 ml cans of a health drink called ‘Hell’
A team of the National Security Guard (NSG) on Tuesday (9 May) arrived at Heritage Street in Amritsar, the site of twin blasts that occurred recently.
Two bombs went off near the golden temple in Amritsar on 6 May and 8 May. While both bombings were small in scale, only one person was injured in the first instance.
The case is being investigated by the National Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council. Commissioner of Police, Amritsar’s handle tweeted that the police are conducting “scientific and forensically investigating the case of the Amritsar explosions to find the truth".
DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “The two blasts were caused by low-grade explosives without detonators.” He informed that based on the initial crime spot assessments, both the bombs were found to be crude and locally assembled.
While no serious harm was reported, the blasts come days before the Jalandhar by-polls. The incident is also being linked to the arrest of radical Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and the murder of Paramjit Singh Panjwar, the long-time head of the banned outfit Khalistani Commando Force (KCF),
The DGP said that the police are looking into various angles — whether it was mischief, or the doing of a terrorist module — and emphasised the significance of the timing of the blasts.
Security forces also carried out a flag march in Amritsar on Monday (8 May). Mehtab Singh, Assistant DCP, Amritsar said, “This is being done to restore public confidence”.
