"Appreciate The Unanimous Support And Understanding": Jaishankar On All-Party Meeting Over Bangladesh Issue
EAM Jaishankar briefed the all-party meeting on Bangladesh situation
A day after Sheikh Hasina resigned as the Bangladesh Prime Minister and fled the country, the Modi government on Tuesday (6 August) called an all-party meeting to discuss the situation in the neighbouring country.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar briefed the meeting about the developments in the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh.
"Briefed an All-Party meeting in Parliament today about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh. Appreciate the unanimous support and understanding that was extended," Jaishankar wrote on X.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (5 August) evening chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) at his official residence, at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
In the meeting, PM Modi was briefed about the situation in Bangladesh.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman said that Sheikh Hasina had resigned and the Army would form an interim government.
"The country has suffered a lot, the economy has been hit, many people have been killed -- it is time to stop the violence," said General Waker.
Hasina, who started her fifth term as Prime Minister earlier this year, aged 76, resigned and departed from Dhaka in a military aircraft bound for India, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana.
Upon landing at the Hindon Air Force base in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, around 30 km from Delhi, Sheikh Hasina met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
