Arvind Kejriwal meets auto drivers at his residence
Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), declared five assurances for auto drivers in Delhi on Tuesday (10 December), in the run-up to the assembly elections.
The promises include a life insurance policy worth Rs 10 lakh and accident insurance worth Rs 5 lakh, a sum of Rs 1 lakh for their daughters' weddings and Rs 2,500 twice a year to buy uniforms.
Kejriwal also promised that the Delhi government would bear the expenses for coaching auto drivers' children for competitive exams and restarting 'PoochO app.'
This application enables users to utilise the database created by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System, which contains registered auto drivers' mobile numbers, allowing them to book a ride.
The announcements come after former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal held a meeting with auto-rickshaw drivers yesterday at his home in New Delhi.
The AAP, under the leadership of Kejriwal, is aiming to secure its fourth term in Delhi following its significant electoral victories in 2020. During these elections, it overwhelmingly defeated the BJP by claiming 62 out of the 70 seats in the Assembly.
The party has been vigorously advocating against the purported inability of the BJP-led Central government to uphold law and order in Delhi, highlighting increasing instances of extortion and gun-related violence.
The BJP has been pointing fingers at the AAP, alleging them of corruption, mismanagement, and attributing Delhi's pollution problems to their purported poor governance.
Previously, the BJP put forth the motto "Ab Nahi Sahenge, Badal Kar Rahenge" (won't tolerate now, will bring the change), pledging to terminate the reign of the AAP.
