In an effort to maintain peace and harmony, the Manipur Government on 11 February 2025, issued an advisory urging citizens to stay calm and avoid falling prey to unverified news, rumours, or misinformation that could create unnecessary panic or disrupt stability in the state, as reported by The Hindu.
A press release by Chief Secretary P K Singh highlighted concerns that certain individuals and groups might deliberately spread false information and inflammatory content to incite unrest and fear among the public.
"It has also come to the notice of the government that certain unscrupulous individuals and groups may deliberately attempt to incite unrest, disrupt harmony, and spread fear among the public using false information, inflammatory content, or fabricated narratives," the statement read, and quoted as saying by The Hindu.
The government strongly advised residents not to believe or circulate unverified claims that could contribute to lawlessness.

Emphasising the importance of community efforts in maintaining peace, the government urged leaders from various sectors, including community leaders, civil society organisations, religious groups, student organisations, intellectuals and citizens.
The government called upon them to foster unity and rebuild trust among communities. "Let us prioritise peace, understanding, and development for the betterment of our beloved state," the statement added.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards violence and unrest, the government warned that any attempt to incite disturbances would be dealt with strictly under the law.
