Pakistani cricketer Sahibzada Farhan's controversial gesture

Contentious gestures by two Pakistani players have reignited political debate over whether India should have opted to boycott Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

Pakistani cricketer Sahibzada Farhan celebrated his half-century by mimicking the firing of an AK-47 rifle with his bat.

This gesture was perceived by many as inappropriate and provocative, especially given the recent military tensions between India and Pakistan. The celebration has been widely condemned, with some political figures likening it to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack.

Another player, Haris Rauf made a provocative '6-0' hand gesture towards Indian fans during the Super Four clash in Dubai.

This gesture was interpreted by many as a reference to Pakistan's false claim that six Indian Air Force aircraft were allegedly shot down during Operation Sindoor in May.

While such gestures have sparked public outrage and political debate, there is no official confirmation yet on whether the International Cricket Council (ICC) or the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will impose fines or sanctions on the players involved. In the past, players have been fined for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill’s 105-run opening stand propelled defending champions India to a six-wicket win over Pakistan in their Asia Cup Super Four clash on Sunday, marking India’s second victory in the T20 tournament.

After Pakistan batted first and set a target of 172, India chased it down with seven balls to spare.
