News Brief
AAP leader Atishi
Delhi Minister Atishi is set to take over as the Chief Minister (CM) after Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the CM post due to corruption allegations against him.
A couple of days ago, Kejriwal announced at a party meeting that he would be resigning from his post and promised to choose new CM after a meeting of AAP MLAs.
This meeting was held earlier today (17 September), where Atishi was elected as the leader of Delhi AAP Legislative Party. Her name was proposed by Kejriwal himself.
However, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had rejected Kejriwal's requested and instead asked Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gahlot to hoist the flag in Kejriwal's absence.
Kejriwal has pledged to not sit on the CM chair till the people announce their verdict in the Delhi assembly elections due in February next year.
"I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people's court. I will sit on the Chief Minister's chair only after the order of the people," Kejriwal said.
