A mosque in Gurgaon, located in sector 57, was set on fire and the naib imam was killed, allegedly by a mob of 70-80 people, during the early hours of Tuesday (1 August), as reported by The Indian Express.
The DCP (East), Nitish Aggarwal, stated that the Anjuman Jama Masjid was torched on Monday (31 July) night. He assured that the authorities have already identified some of the accused and will take appropriate action soon.
During the incident, the accused individuals resorted to opening fire. Both the naib imam and another man sustained severe injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital. The naib imam reportedly had stab wounds, according to the DCP.
“Internet services have been suspended in Sohna/Pataudi/Manesar areas,” she added.
Following clashes in Nuh during a procession by the VHP and Bajrang Dal, resulting in three deaths including two home guards, a curfew was imposed in the district on Tuesday, as stated by Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij. Although there were no reports of fresh violence, the situation in Nuh remained tense. Security has been heightened in Nuh and other areas, as reported by news agency PTI.
