Cases against Hindu protesters continue to be filed in Bangladesh after the arrest of spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das at Dhaka airport on 25 November.
The latest incident was a clash between police and followers of the Hindu monk on Chittagong court premises leading to the filing of a case on Sunday (8 December), as reported by local media.
According to the Dhaka Tribune, the case identifies Das, who was previously arrested on sedition charges, as the primary accused. It also names 164 others and includes 400 to 500 unidentified individuals.
The complaint, lodged by Enamul Haque—a businessman and activist with Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh—was filed in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abu Bakar Siddique.
Haque alleged that he was assaulted by followers of Das on 26 November while leaving the court after completing land registry work. He claimed he was targeted for wearing traditional attire, including a panjabi and cap, which led to injuries on his right hand and head.
"Haque was assaulted on 26 November on the court premises by followers of Chinmoy Krishna. His right hand was fractured, and he sustained head injuries. The case names 164 individuals, with Chinmoy Krishna as the principal accused," said Haque’s lawyer.
This incident is part of a series of clashes linked to the imprisonment of Chinmoy Krishna Das, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sommilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote.
Previously, on 27 November, police filed three cases at Kotwali police station, naming numerous individuals and hundreds of unidentified people for obstructing law enforcement and causing disturbances.
In another development, a businessman filed a separate complaint last week, alleging he was assaulted near Rangam Cinema Hall on 26 November. This case names 29 individuals, including members of political organisations and ISKCON, along with 40 to 50 unidentified persons.
