Bangladesh's Yunus-Led Interim Government Recalls High Commissioner To India Amid Strained Ties With New Delhi

In a major diplomatic reshuffle, the Muhammad Yunus-led Interim Government in Bangladesh have recalled its five envoys including the country's High Commissioner to India.
Besides the high commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman, the others recalled by Bangladesh Foreign Ministry are the permanent representative to the UN in New York and the envoys to Australia, Belgium and Portugal.
Some of the envoys who were recalled, including Rahman, were reportedly set to retire in the coming months.
Rahman, a career diplomat who was appointed the high commissioner to India in July 2022 and earlier served as Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva and the envoy to Switzerland and Singapore, played a key role in driving development cooperation and forging better ties between the two sides.
Shortly after Hasina resigned and sought refuge in India, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was appointed to lead a caretaker government.
More than 700 people died as a result of the student-led movement that ousted Hasina, straining ties with India. The two have a 4,000-km (2500-mile) border and maritime boundaries in the Bay of Bengal.
Minority groups in Bangladesh have said that Hindus and other minorities were attacked after the political changes.
