Bengaluru is set to see one of its biggest sports infrastructure projects, with a Rs 1,650 crore investment earmarked for a state-of-the-art complex in Surya City, Bommasandra, Hindustan Times reported.
The facility will include India’s second-largest stadium, capable of seating 60,000 people.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced the project on Thursday (21 August) through X, calling it a major leap for the city’s sporting ambitions.
Spread across 75 acres, the complex is designed to cater to athletes, spectators, and large-scale international events.
Along with the stadium, the project will feature multiple indoor and outdoor arenas, Olympic-size swimming pools, a modern gym, specialised training centres, and residential facilities including guest houses and hostels.
Plans also include hotels and a convention hall to support cultural and sporting events on a global scale.
Shivakumar described the development as a “major boost” for Bengaluru’s sports ecosystem, highlighting its potential to encourage talent while positioning the city as a destination for world-class tournaments.
Located in Bommasandra’s Surya City, the project is strategically placed in a growing urban corridor, aligning with Bengaluru’s wider expansion plans.
Construction is expected to begin shortly, with the complex envisioned as a hub that will not only provide international-level infrastructure but also contribute to the city’s urban growth.
Once completed, it could redefine Bengaluru’s presence on India’s sports map, offering athletes and fans a modern space built to global standards.
