The launch of Namma Metro’s highly-anticipated Yellow Line continues to remain in limbo, as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is yet to receive the Independent Safety Assessment (ISA) certificate, an essential requirement for initiating trial runs and final inspections, The New Indian Express reported.
The Yellow Line, which connects RV Road to Bommasandra, is particularly significant for commuters in the city’s IT and business corridor.
It passes through densely packed traffic zones, including the infamous Silk Board Junction, where daily gridlocks have long frustrated motorists.
Earlier this month, BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao had stated that the ISA certificate would be secured within a week.
Without the ISA certificate, BMRCL is not in a position to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for the required inspection, a step critical before the line can be opened to the public.
“We don’t have an update so far regarding it, and when we do have any news about it, we will let you know,” BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer Yeshwanth Chavan was quoted as saying by TNIE.
Meanwhile, public outrage over the delay in the launch is growing. Recent protests at Lalbagh saw commuters demand urgent action, with citizen groups warning of city-wide demonstrations at metro stations if the Yellow Line’s promised rollout is delayed further.
