News Brief
Bhopal Metro Project.
Bhopal’s Metro system is preparing to roll out its priority corridor next month.
The Orange Line stretch from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar Depot, spanning eight stations and allowing trains to operate at speeds of up to 80 km/h, incorporates a host of noise and vibration reduction measures in line with the Metro Rail Transit System Guidelines for Noise and Vibrations (2015), Times of India reported.
Officials from Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) said the focus has been on mitigating environmental impact, particularly in densely populated and sensitive areas.
At AIIMS station, advanced engineering has been deployed to reduce vibrations, while on the AIIMS–Alkapuri Bus Stand section, rubber pads beneath concrete slabs absorb vibrations, shielding nearby structures from disturbance.
To protect residential communities, 4 metre high transparent acrylic barriers have been installed near Habibganj Naka, ensuring visual openness while limiting noise transmission.
Similarly, at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station and Habibganj, track-switching mechanisms are enclosed within foam-insulated metal casings, preventing operational noise from affecting daily activities.
In school zones, such as near Kendriya Vidyalaya, trains are programmed to automatically decelerate to below 60 km/h to reduce disruption.
At the Subhash Nagar Depot, heavy operational equipment, including fans, transformers, and compressors, is housed in sound-controlled pack houses, keeping noise levels below that of typical city background sounds.
Looking ahead, MPMRCL has earmarked Rs 1.2 crore for projects in Indore and Bhopal to evaluate the performance of these silent technologies and further strengthen their impact.
