4-Lane Badvel- Nellore Highway Plan (PIB)
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (28 May) approved the construction of a 4-lane highway between Badvel and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, says a government notification.
The project, spanning 108.134 km, will be developed under the Design Build Finance Operate Transfer (DBFOT) model at a total capital cost of Rs 3,653.10 crore.
The corridor will begin at Gopavaram Village on National Highway NH-67 in YSR Kadapa district and end at the Krishnapatnam Port junction on NH-16 in SPSR Nellore district.
It is expected to improve strategic connectivity to Krishnapatnam Port, identified as a key node under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
This highway will also link key industrial nodes across three major industrial corridors: Kopparthy on the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), Orvakal on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (HBIC), and Krishnapatnam on the CBIC. These connections are expected to enhance logistics efficiency and improve India’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI).
According to the statement, the project is estimated to generate approximately 20 lakh man-days of direct jobs and 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment. Additional job opportunities are also expected due to increased economic activity along the corridor.
The government also released the proposed project maps of the upcoming Badvel and Nellore corridor.
This strategic infrastructure initiative is expected to significantly support India's broader economic and logistics goals.
