The Uttar Pradesh Police filed its chargesheet in the case against mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed on Thursday (13 April), in which Atiq is quoted as saying that he has “direct connections” with Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

report published by the news agency ANI quotes Atiq boasting about his weapons further.

“I have no dearth of weapons. I have direct connections with Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Weapons from Pakistan are dropped in Punjab border with the help of drones and local connection collects them. Terrorists in Jammu-Kashmir get weapons from this consignment. If you take me with you, I can help you recover that money and arms and ammunition used in the incident," said Atiq in the chargesheet.

Atiq, currently under trial for the murder of Umesh Pal, was brought from Gujarat's Sabarmati jail this week, to appear before the Prayagraj court in a hearing related to the case. He is in the Naini Central Jail, as of now.

Meanwhile, his son Asad was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF), and his wife — also one of the accused in the case — has been absconding. The police recovered sophisticated weapons from Asad which appeared to have been made in a foreign country.

Atiq and his brother Ashraf were presented before Chief Judicial Magistrate Gautam at 11:10am on Thursday (13 April) under tight security. The hearing lasted for two hours, after which the magistrate ruled that Atiq would stay in Prayagraj till 26 April.
