The Election Commission of India (ECI) will publish Bihar’s final voter list today (30 September), likely around 3 pm, after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This will set the stage for announcing the poll schedule, expected between 6–7 October, reported India Today.

Bihar’s SIR, conducted after 22 years, sparked political and legal debate. The draft electoral rolls, published on 1 August, were open for claims and objections until 1 September.

Before the revision, Bihar had 7.89 crore voters. The draft list showed 7.24 crore names, deleting 65.63 lakh entries.

During the process, the ECI issued notices to 3 lakh voters, received 2.17 lakh deletion requests, and 16.93 lakh inclusion requests. Between 1 August and 1 September, over 16.56 lakh new registrations were submitted via Form-6.

Another 36,000 sought inclusion, and over 2.17 lakh requested deletions during objections. Applications received between 1–30 September will be processed from 1 October onwards.

Under rules, voters can still apply for inclusion up to 10 days before nominations, appearing in a supplementary list.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed collusion between the poll body and BJP, calling it “vote theft,” supported by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Petitioners took the matter to the Supreme Court, where Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi stressed “en masse inclusion” and warned they could scrap rolls if irregularities were found. The next hearing is 7 October.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and colleagues will visit Bihar on 4–5 October to review preparations before announcing the poll schedule.
