News Brief
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP has intensified its attack on former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal.
The party alleged on Monday (6 January) that a Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report "exposed his black deeds" by raising 139 questions regarding the exorbitant expenditure on Kejriwal's official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, dubbed the “Sheesh Mahal.”
At a press conference, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva claimed that the 2022 CAG report cited expenses of Rs 33.86 crore for the renovation of the bungalow.
However, he claimed, "The real cost runs up to Rs 75-80 crore if the inventory of items in the bungalow is included.”
He added that expenses incurred during 2023 and 2024 have yet to be accounted for.
The BJP has branded this alleged misuse of public funds as a symbol of the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) hypocrisy and misgovernance.
"The Controller and Auditor General (CAG) has raised 139 questions and very minutely detailed the black deeds of Kejriwal," Sachdeva said.
Sachdeva questioned the legality of the construction, claiming it was carried out without approvals from the Delhi Urban Arts Commission and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
“What message did a Chief Minister give to Delhi by constructing the bungalow in an unauthorised manner?” he asked.
The BJP accused the Public Works Department (PWD) of acting as a "private organisation" to cater to Kejriwal's personal interests, undermining its role as a government agency.
“If the real cost of the bungalow is to be determined, the accounts of the public works and other departments have to be checked,” Sachdeva said.
