The Delhi government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled an elaborate plan to support kanwariyas undertaking the Kanwar Yatra this year, rolling out measures designed to enhance both comfort and spectacle for the devotees, according to an Indian Express report.

Following a review meeting with the Kanwar Seva Committee, Gupta assured that preparations are well in hand.

“The government is fully prepared. As soon as we get the final list, the first instalment will be disbursed with a click of a button,” she was quoted as saying.

At the heart of the plan are grand welcome gates being erected at Delhi’s borders to greet kanwariyas as they enter the city. Officials have also organised showers of flower petals to welcome devotees along their routes.

Infrastructure improvements are a significant focus, with medical tents being set up, clean drinking water arranged, and barricades installed to manage the flow of pilgrims safely.

District magistrates, development committees, and senior officials have been tasked with overseeing arrangements to ensure seamless services.

Cabinet ministers, MLAs, and other leaders are expected to participate in personally welcoming kanwariyas with floral tributes.

This year, over 250 Kanwar camps are likely to be set up across the city, significantly more than previous years, reflecting heightened efforts to make the pilgrimage smoother and more festive for participants.

Despite widespread preparations, the government has yet to issue an official directive regarding the closure of meat shops along Kanwar routes, though appeals have been made to shopkeepers to voluntarily respect public sentiment during the yatra.
