In a high-stakes internal showdown within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), veteran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy has once again emerged victorious in the Constitution Club of India (CCI) election, defeating fellow party leader and former Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan by a margin of 100 votes.

Rudy, who has helmed the prestigious club as Secretary (Administration) for over 25 years, secured 391 votes out of 707 cast, while Balyan garnered 291, as per official results announced on Tuesday (12 August) night.

The election, held on 12 August, drew unprecedented attention with political heavyweights like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge participating in the voting process.

This rare bipartisan turnout underscored the club's significance as a neutral ground for lawmakers across parties.

Rudy's panel, which included members from Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and independents, claimed a sweeping victory, with Rudy himself attributing the win to "collective efforts beyond party lines."

"This is the victory of my panel, which had Congress, SP, TMC, and independent MPs," Rudy told reporters post-results, emphasising the club's role in fostering dialogue.

Established as a hub for current and former parliamentarians, the CCI facilitates discussions on constitutional matters and social events.

Rudy's continued leadership is expected to drive modernisation, including upgraded facilities amid growing membership.

This win also solidifies Rudy's influence in Delhi's power corridors, potentially influencing policy networking.

The election saw 680 valid votes, with Rudy maintaining his unbroken streak since 2000.

Opposition figures like Deepender Hooda and Naveen Jindal also contested for member positions.
