BMC To Invite Tenders For Construction Of Fire Station Along The Reclaimed Land On Mumbai Coastal Road

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received the Supreme Court’s clearance to build a fire station on reclaimed land along the Mumbai Coastal Road, for improving emergency preparedness on the newly opened expressway, The Free Press Journal reported.
The station, to be located at Poonam Chambers in Worli, will be developed on a 700 square metre plot.
According to officials, the facility will include parking for three fire tenders along with a compact storage unit for additional firefighting equipment. The civic body is expected to invite tenders for construction in the coming weeks.
The Coastal Road, stretching 10.58 km from the Princess Street flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli-end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, has been built at a cost of Rs 13,984 crore.
Initially, the BMC had planned two fire stations along the corridor.
However, stiff opposition from citizens led to the scrapping of the Amarsons site, leaving the Worli facility as the sole approved station.
Since the reclaimed land is reserved for open spaces and non-commercial purposes, the Mumbai Fire Brigade sought Supreme Court approval before moving forward.
