The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has signed a 13 year license agreement with a private telecom infrastructure firm to deploy and manage advanced communication systems across several stretches of Namma Metro, The Hindu reported.
The agreement, signed on 14 July, is with Advanced Communications and Electronics Systems Company (ACES) India Private Limited.
Under this deal, ACES will be responsible for setting up and maintaining telecom infrastructure across metro stations and premises on the four extensions of Phase-I, as well as on Reach-5 and Reach-6 of Phase-II.
“The telecom infrastructure will support multiple mobile network operators, reduce duplication, bring down deployment costs, and enable quicker roll-out of advanced 4G and 5G services. Commuters on these corridors can expect uninterrupted mobile connectivity during their journey,” BMRCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao was quoted as saying in The Hindu report.
The collaboration is expected to benefit lakhs of passengers who frequently face dropped calls and patchy internet inside metro stations and tunnels.
