BRS Rift Deepens: Kavitha Hints At Merger Talks With BJP, Takes Subtle Digs At Brother KTR

The internal rift within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) deepened on Thursday (29 May) as senior leader K Kavitha openly acknowledged ongoing efforts to merge the party with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian Express reported.

She also targeted her brother and party working president KT Rama Rao, or KTR (without naming him), for not rallying the party in defence of their father and BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

Kavitha, in an informal chat with reporters at her residence in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills, declared that she is battling for survival within the party and that her primary rival is KTR. She criticised him for spending time abroad and limiting his party engagement to tweets, rather than grassroots work in Telangana.

Kavitha revealed that during her recent imprisonment in Delhi, she was approached with a proposal to merge BRS with the BJP, which she rejected outright and informed KCR.

Kavitha held her press conference while KTR is on an overseas tour aimed at “garnering support for the BRS.” Commenting on his trip, she remarked, “What’s the point of celebrating abroad when there’s no groundwork being done for the party in Telangana?”

Kavitha’s comments followed her leaked letter to KCR, where she expressed frustration over KCR’s limited criticism of the BJP at a party event, leading to speculation about a possible future alliance between BRS and BJP.
