The Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday (26 February) thwarted an infiltration attempt at International border in Punjab and neutralised an intruder, ANI reported.

BSF personnel detected suspicious movement along the International Border at BOP Tashpatan in the Pathankot border region in early hours of Wednesday.

Acting swiftly, the troops thwarted an infiltration attempt, neutralising an intruder who ignored repeated warnings.

"At pre-dawn today, BSF troops observed a suspicious movement across the IB (International Border) in BOP Tashpatan, Pathankot border area & an intruder was observed crossing the IB; he was challenged by the alert troops but paid no heed & kept on moving; BSF troops sensing threat neutralised the intruder. The identity & motive of the intruder are being ascertained. Vigilant BSF troops thwarted an infiltration attempt. Strong protest will be lodged with Pak Rangers," the BSF said in a statement.

Separately, in another operation, BSF Meghalaya intercepted and arrested several people who were trying to enter the country illegally.

In an independent operation, BSF Meghalaya personnel also apprehended two more Bangladeshi nationals along the international border in South Garo Hills.

These operations were an extension of BSF Meghalaya's constant endeavours towards checking illegal intrusion and trans-border crimes.

The arrested people were subsequently handed over to local police officials for further legal action.

Investigations that followed found that some of the arrested people had been working as masons in Basantpur, Mumbai, and one Bangladeshi woman had gone to Mumbai reportedly for her husband's medical treatment, according to BSF.
