A Pakistani intruder trying to infiltrate into India from the Punjab border was shot dead on Monday (12 August) night by the Border Security Force (BSF) amid an ongoing "high alert" ahead of Independence Day.
"On 12th August 2024, during night hours, BSF troops observed suspicious movement of an infiltrator from Pakistan who was approaching towards border security fence after crossing the International Border in the area falling near bordering Village Dal of district Tarn Taran, Punjab," BSF said in a statement on Tuesday (13 August).
Alert BSF troops challenged the intruder but he did not stop and continued his advance towards the border security fence, it said.
Vigilant BSF troops once again decimated the nefarious designs of cross border terror-syndicate to organise this infiltration bid into the Indian territory from across the border, it said.
The BSF, which guards the 553-kilometre-long India-Pakistan frontier in Punjab, has declared a high alert on the frontline from 10 August in the wake of Independence Day events on 15 August, The Hindu reported.
