Prime Minister Narendra Modi outside Parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the coincidence that the Budget Session of the Parliament is beginning on the first Monday of Sawan (Hindu month considered auspicious to worship Lord Shiv).
While speaking outside Parliament today (22 July), Modi praised his government for returning to power for the third time after 60 years and said that the Budget intends to make his guarantees a reality.
"This Budget is important budget for Amrit Kaal. Today's budget will decide the direction for the next five years of our term. This budget will also become a strong foundation of our dream of 'Viksit Bharat'," he added.
Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Modi said, "I want to tell MPs of all parties from January till now we have fought as much as we had to, but now that period is over, the public has given its verdict."
"In the election year of January 2029, you can play any game, even use the Parliament for it if you want to, but till then we should participate for the empowerment of the farmers, youth and the country," Modi added.
Recalling the first session of the 18th Parliament, Modi alleged that the negative politics of some parties did not let many MPs speak. He alleged that the Opposition misused Parliament to cover up its political failures.
"You must have seen that in the first Session of the Parliament, an attempt was made to stifle the voice of the government that has been elected with a majority by 140 crore people of the country," the PM added.
"For 2.5 hours, an attempt was made to suppress the voice of the Prime Minister. The people of the country have sent us for the country and not for the party. This Parliament is for the country, not for the party," he continued.
