The Union Cabinet has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of raw jute for the 2025-26 marketing season to Rs 5,650 per quintal, marking a Rs 315 hike from the previous year’s MSP of Rs 5,335.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted that the new MSP ensures a 66.8 per cent return over the All-India weighted average cost of production.
This decision aims to provide better financial security to jute farmers while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
In addition to the MSP hike, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the National Health Mission (NHM) for another five years.
Minister Goyal praised the mission's historical success, noting that nearly 12 lakh healthcare workers joined the NHM between 2021 and 2022, and it played a crucial role in India’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
