Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav.
A recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has led to a sharp exchange between Bihar’s ruling alliance and the Opposition.
The report reveals that as of 31 March 2024, the Bihar government had not not received utilisation certificates for Rs 70,877.61 crore and had failed to provide detailed contingent bills worth Rs 9,205.76 crore to the CAG despite reminders., The New Indian Express reported.
Tejashwi Yadav Alleges Irregularities
Opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav alleged that the missing documentation points to large-scale financial irregularities.
“The government’s silence suggests irregularity. Nearly Rs 80,000 crore has gone unaccounted for,” he said, citing the figures from the CAG report.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary dismissed the allegations, attributing most of the pending figures to the period when the Grand Alliance, which included Tejashwi, was in power.
He insisted that delays in bill submissions do not indicate a scam and added that Rs 50,000 crore worth of bills had been adjusted in just the past four months.
“This is a continuous process and, not an instance of financial wrongdoing,” he said.
