In a major push to Delhi-NCR road infrastructure, the Centre has approved a 30 km expressway that will connect Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and the upcoming Jewar International Airport, officials said.

The proposed expressway will run parallel to the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway along the Yamuna River, linking the Pushta Road with both the Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressways, as per a News 18 report.

The proposal, put forward by Gautam Buddha Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma, received backing from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to the Jewar airport site for the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ plantation drive.

Gadkari said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would “seriously consider” the proposal and assured that there would be no shortage of funds.

Projects worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore are already underway in Delhi-NCR, with Rs 60,000 crore completed, Gadkari added, noting that the government has a roadmap to invest an additional Rs 40,000–50,000 crore in future development.

The expressway received in-principle clearance from the Noida Authority in March 2025 to decongest the heavily burdened Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) had been tasked with its execution, with a proposed cost-sharing model among Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway authorities.

Currently, the 25 km Noida-Greater Noida Expressway handles around five lakh vehicles daily, leading to severe congestion during peak hours.

According to Sharma, the new expressway will act as a strategic bypass, allowing vehicles from Delhi to reach Jewar Airport directly.

“To fully leverage Jewar Airport’s potential, building a direct and efficient road link is not just necessary, it’s urgent,” he was quoted as saying.

Authorities plan to adopt upgraded design standards to avoid past issues with the Yamuna Pushta Road, ensuring long-term durability and safety under NHAI supervision.
