The Central Government has approved Rs 2,006.40 crore to help Himachal Pradesh recover from the destruction caused by floods, landslides, and cloudbursts in 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

The financial help was approved by a high-level committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

This money will be used for rebuilding damaged infrastructure such as roads, bridges, homes, and public buildings.

Of the total amount, Rs 1,504.80 crore will come from the Central Government’s National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), which is specially meant for such emergencies.

This is in addition to the Rs 633.73 crore that was already released for Himachal Pradesh in December 2023.

The central government also highlighted its broader commitment to strengthening disaster management systems across the country.

So far in FY 2024–25, the Centre has released Rs 20,264.40 crore to 28 states under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and Rs 5,160.76 crore under the NDRF to 19 states.

The government had also cleared recovery packages of Rs 1,658.17 crore for Uttarakhand (post-Joshimath subsidence) and Rs 555.27 crore for Sikkim (post-GLOF incident).

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, to mitigate future risks, the Centre has also approved disaster prevention projects worth Rs 7,253.51 crore, covering hazards such as urban flooding, landslides, drought, forest fires, lightning, and glacial lake outbursts.
